Beyoncé ‘s debut Netflix film, Homecoming masterfully showcases how eight months of hard labor (from a mother who just had twins) can be broken down into a quick two-hour set. Netflix focuses on Queen B’s dual performances at a 2018 music festival after working through a traumatic pregnancy, which lead her to weigh in at 218 pounds just months before training for the iconic festival.
Well, now we feel lazy after sitting on the couch, watching her dance whilst covered in popcorn debris. Let’s take a second and review everything Beyoncé did that would tire out the patriarchy before its 5 p.m. TV dinner.
What did you learn about how tired and outdated your personal beliefs are after watching ‘Homecoming’? Let us know if you’re all caught up on the times in the comments.

Beyonce Homecoming
Mother, Wife, Sister, Feminist, Performer, Icon
Beyoncé spent literally every second of eight months preparing to kick ass. She balanced the responsibilities of 10 people in order to pull off her very specific vision, down to the finest details. After having twins, her body was broken down.
Beyoncé admitted to her weight struggles, saying, "There were days that I thought, you know, I’d never be the same. I’d never be the same physically, my strength and endurance would never be the same."
She Got There First
Beyoncé was the first black woman to headline this particular music festival, making sure she left her mark by creating an artistic performance that reflects this accomplishment.
Show Me The Money
Bey didn't just get paid for headlining this festival. She got paid by Netflix for the Homecoming documentary. And then she got paid again after releasing the coinciding album from her headlining set at the festival. Honestly, homegirl is really showing us how to get things done without worrying about the money. She knows it's coming.
Perfectionism Is Key
Beyoncé didn't become the biggest star in the world by accident. She's the ultimate professional and that work ethic was apparent in Homecoming .
The Queen B explained, “I personally selected each dancer, every light, the material on the steps, the height of the pyramid, the shape of the pyramid. Every tiny detail had an intention.”
And that intention was to highlight black excellence and the weight it has on everything in pop culture.
HBCUs
Beyoncé made history as the first female headliner at the festival 19 years after its debut. Part of the excellence she brought to the table had to do with highlighting historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
Beyoncé explains of the set, “I wanted it to feel the way I felt when I went to [the HBCUs' marching band showcase] Battle of the Bands...because I grew up seeing those shows and that being the highlight of my year.” Which coincidentally resulted in her performance being the highlight of the entire festival.
The Headliner Diet
In order to achieve the body she's best known for, Beyoncé starved herself.
“In order for me to meet my goal," Beyoncé says in the documentary, "I’m limiting myself to no bread, no carbs, no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no fish, no alcohol. And I’m hungry.”
Hungry to be a winner.
