Since its launch back in 2020, Disney+ has become one of the most successful streaming services on the planet, thanks in large part to, well, Marvel and Star Wars. In December of that year, the Walt Disney Company held its official Investor Day, showcasing a slew of announcements and first looks.
Last week, the company held Disney+ Day, celebrating the streamer’s first anniversary. And it was a disaster. Scratch that, it was just plain boring. While the event did outline the new and returning series and movies that will appear on the platform, aside from announcements, next-to-no new footage was shown and what was remains behind Disney+’s paywall. Without further ado, here are the best reveals and not-so-special first looks from Disney+ Day…most of which have to do with Marvel and Star Wars.

8. 'Secret Invasion'
Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury hasn’t been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Spider-Man: Far From Home’s post-credits scene—which showed the former director of SHIELD in outer space. Fury is set to appear next in the Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which will revolve around the shape-shifting Skrulls introduced in Captain Marvel. The series will premiere on the streamer next year and, on Disney+ Day, fans were given a quick look at a very beardy Jackson (as seen above) during the Marvel reel.

7. 'Ms. Marvel'
Disney+’s upcoming series, Ms. Marvel, follows the Marvel Comics character of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel—a Muslim Pakistani-American teen from Jersey City who writes superhero fan fiction before gaining shape-shifting powers. As the MCU continues to make strides towards diversity, this series will see its main character struggle to embrace both her powers and combat the challenges posed by her identity—something showcased in Disney+ Day’s newly-released footage.

6. 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'
Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series may be the streamer’s most-anticipated project as it’s set to bring back Ewan McGregor’s Jedi master and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin/Darth Vader. Fans expected an actual teaser for the project during Disney+ Day. Unfortunately, all they got was a few minutes of director Deborah Chow and McGregor talking about the show and revealing next to nothing. We still await actual footage for the series, which will likely drop in the first half of 2022.

5. 'Willow'
Willow is an upcoming series based on the 1988 fantasy film of the same name starring Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood, a Nelwyn dwarf sorcerer. The sequel series will follow a princess who assembles a party to join her on her quest to rescue her twin brother. Instead of any footage (at all), Disney dropped a behind-the-scenes video of Davis interviewing the cast including Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Tony Revolori, Ruby Cruz, and Amer Chadha-Patel.

4. 'She-Hulk'
She-Hulk will follow its titular character Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) as she balances her life as a lawyer with her newly acquired gamma powers. The series is being presented as a half-hour legal comedy spanning 10 episodes, which will also feature Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner Hulk. In addition to teasing She-Hulk’s comic-accurate look, Disney+ Day also unveiled a mock legal ad with Ruffalo and Maslany. Filming on the series has wrapped and it is expected to drop in 2022 (as is the case with pretty much everything on this list...if you hadn’t guessed that).

3. 'Moon Knight'
Last week gave us our first look at Oscar Isaac in Moon Knight, following Marc Spector, whose powers are dependent upon the lunar cycle...among other things. Basically, he’s Marvel’s Batman with god-like abilities and multiple personality disorder. As evident by the first look, one of the personalities is British and Isaac clearly is not.

2. 'Hocus Pocus 2,' 'Disenchanted,' and Live-Action Disney Movies
Disney+ Day revealed some of the first footage from Hocus Pocus 2, highlighting Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as the Sanderson sisters. Also announced was the Enchanted sequel Disenchanted and more live-action adaptations of classic Disney films such as Peter Pan and Pinocchio.

1. 'Agatha: House of Harkness, Marvel Zombies, Spider-Man Freshman Year, and X-Men '97' reveals
Title card reveals for upcoming Marvel shows included a WandaVision spin-off featuring Kathryn Hahn, Agatha: House of Harkness, and Iron Man spin-offs in Iron Heart and Armor Wars. Animated shows included Spider-Man Freshman Year, Marvel Zombies (no doubt inspired by that What If…? episode), and X-Men ‘97. The latter series will revive the classic animated series X-Men, picking up were it left off with many of the original cast in their same roles. Given its influence and immortalized theme song, X-Men ‘97 is sure to appeal to several generations of streamers.
