It’s been eight years since the ‘Dexter’ finale. While it seems like most series finales are met with a ton of groans and disappointment, the popular Showtime series was sadly no different. In the final episode, the anti-hero blood splatter specialist who led a double life as a serial killer with a “code” of who to kill, disappeared into Hurricane Laura off the coast of Miami seemingly never to be seen again. While anyone looking for Morgan in Miami assumes he’s dead, the audience sees a clip of him looking like a rugged lumberjack somewhere far away. This opened the door for a potential return. In 2021, it’s finally here.
‘Dexter: New Blood’ takes place ten years after Dexter Morgan’s disappearance. He’s currently living in Upstate New York in a place called Iron Lake using a fake name. This return makes us think about the other iconic television characters we’d love to see make a triumphant comeback for just one more season (at least). Keep scrolling to see all of our picks.

Tony Soprano (The Sopranos)
If you can’t get past the fact that James Gandolfini passed away, you can get behind the fact that we never really knew what happened to Tony Soprano in the series finale. We would have loved to see just a little more from this memorable mob boss. Maybe his son could put on some weight and play him.

Nick Miller (New Girl)
While Zoey Deschanel was the titular ‘New Girl”, Jack Johnson’s Nick Miller was by far the best character. We’d love to see a spinoff or another season prominently featuring this man-child.

Rust Cohle (True Detective)
The first season of HBO’s ‘True Detective’ was by far the best. And, while Woody Harrelson was spectacular as Marty Hart, it was Matthew McConaughey’s Rust Cohle we’d love to see more of. We’d love a season exploring his history.

Kenny Powers (Eastbound and Down)
Literally, anything Danny McBride is cast in is comedy gold. We believe his best role is as the rude, over-the-top, crass, mulleted disgraced baseball player Kenny Powers on HBO’s ‘Eastbound and Down’. The show ended in 2013 and we’d love just one more season of this memorable character.

George Costanza (Seinfeld)
While Jerry Seinfeld was the star of ‘Seinfeld”, we’ve always believed that Jason Alexander’s George Costanza is actually the funniest, most interesting character. We’d love to see another season where we get more just a little more George.

Michael Scott (The Office)
We love every season of ‘The Office’, but there’s no arguing that the show lost a bit of its luster when Steve Carell left. We feel like Michael Scott leaving for Colorado derailed the show and we’d love to see him and his family return to Dunder Mifflin for one more year.

Omar Little (The Wire)
‘The Wire’ is one of the most respected, highest-rated television shows ever created. It had an amazing ensemble cast including Idris Elba, Dominic West, and Randall Pierce. But there was no better character than Michael K. Williams’ Omar Little. We wish we could have had more Omar. Sadly, not only did his character meet his demise (spoiler alert) on the show, but the actor also passed away. Maybe a prequel with a different actor?

Ron Swanson (Parks and Recreation)
‘Parks and Recreation’ had an amazing ensemble cast including Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari, but no performance was better than Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson. We would love one more season of this government-hating, Scotch-loving curmudgeon.

Dr. John 'J.D.' Dorian (Scrubs)
‘Scrubs’ was a fairly popular show when it was on the air. In the decade since it ended, it seems to have been largely forgotten. We haven’t forgotten it and we’d love one more season of JD and Turk to make up for the forgettable final season.

Walter White (Breaking Bad)
Not to spoil a show that ended years ago, but ‘Breaking Bad’ ended with Walter White seemingly dead as the building he was in was surrounded by police. But if the high school teacher turned drug kingpin actually survived, we’d love another season to see how he got out of that jam.
