Guillermo del Toro put a spin on the classic tale of Pinocchio and it looks incredible. And no, our noses aren’t growing as we write that.
Netflix just released the trailer for the forthcoming film with this description: “Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reinvents the classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. This whimsical, stop-motion film directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson follows the mischievous and disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.”
Take a look at this magical preview:
Gregory Mann is voicing the titular role, while Ewan McGregor plays Pinocchio’s pal Cricket and David Bradley takes on the role of the old man Geppetto.
“After years of pursuing this dream project, I found my perfect partner in Netflix,” said Del Toro said in 2020. “We have spent a long time curating a remarkable cast and crew and have been blessed by continuous support from Netflix to quietly and carefully soldier on, barely missing a beat. We all love and practice animation with great passion and believe it to be the ideal medium to retell this classic story in a completely new way.”
The director has garnered heaps of praise for previous projects like The Shape of Water, Crimson Peak, and Pan’s Labyrinth. Given his reputation for wildly imaginative entertainment, we have high hopes for this movie, which will be streaming in time for the holiday season. Our inner child is clamoring for Christmas already!
