Jason Momoa Shaves Head in Instagram Video For a Good Cause (That’s One Way to Make a PSA)

Jason Momoa is known for his long, curly locks (and his massive muscles and big mouth). The Aquaman star has practically made his hair his calling card (in addition to that massive beard). But the 43-year-old hardbody recently caught the attention of the entire internet when he shaved his head in an Instagram video.

“Shaving off the hair,” he told followers before showing off two braids that got chopped in the now-viral clip.

Why would he do such a thing? To raise awareness for something he vehemently believes in: reducing the amount of single-use plastics.

“As much as I’ll miss his long hair, this is a cause I can get behind!” he captioned the post.

Momoa went on to explain: “I’m tired of these plastic bottles. We gotta stop. Plastic forks, all that shit. It just goes into our land. It goes into our ocean. I’m here in Hawai’i right now and just seeing things in our ocean — it’s just so sad,” he said. “So please, anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastics in your life, help me. Help me. Plastic bottles are ridiculous.”

For those inspired by this DIY PSA, the actor had some action steps you can take to reduce your single-use plastic consumption.

“Bring your canteen, or now everyone is making the aluminum, which is fantastic,” he said. Not one to waste an opportunity to self-promote, the actor held up a Mananalu can of water. He’s the founder of the company, which prides itself on its “resealable and infinitely recyclable bottle.”

“So, aloha. We’re going to keep going,” he signed off on the video.

We’re still unsure how shaving one’s head reduces the amount single-use plastic waste in the world, but Momoa sure will cut down on shampoo usage going forward!
