But fortunately, to our collective relief, that isn’t want the RIP Rocky phrase refers to, though the news it’s actually about is still sad.

The “RIP Rocky” trend is actually about Ozzy Osbourne’s dog, Rocky, who passed away several days ago on August 20, 2024 according to a post on X from the legendary singer of Black Sabbath.
A black and tan Pomeranian, Rocky was at Ozzy Osbourne’s side for 15 years before he passed away. The rock legend posted a longer statement in a post on Facebook, saying “I’ll see you on the other side my friend. I love you always.” Black Sabbath replied with the comment “Rest in Peace Rocky” along with a photograph of the band and Ozzy holding the dog in his arms.
Ozzy Osbourne’s home is known for having many dogs, around nine at one time according to a video on his YouTube channel. His wife Sharon Osbourne has shared photos of her pack of dogs that include Pomskies, a Yorkie mix, a Maltese mix, and a Shih-Tzu. This is in addition to two cats, one of which is named Tiger Lily. That said, Rocky was one of the artist’s favorite pets, as Ozzy and Sharon featured the dog many times on social media.
Still, many users on X, after getting emotional whiplash over “RIP Rocky,” have expressed frustration over the vague keywords that sometimes populate the trending section of the social media platform. Fortunately, the trend has since clarified itself over time, appearing as “Ozzy” and “Rocky” without the “RIP” included.
