New leaked on-set footage and images of the upcoming Fantastic Four movie are making the rounds, and Marvel fans are absolutely shocked. A short, 7-second clip has captured footage of ‘The Thing’, otherwise known as Ben Grimm for the much-anticipated The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), and a group of workers fitting the rock-faced mask for the character over the actor in the suit. Here’s why Fantastic Four fans are surprised by what the leaked video reveals.
What did the leaked video of Ben Grimm or The Thing reveal?
Fans have largely reacted positively to the leaked video of The Thing, because it looks like the Fantastic Four film will be using practical effects for the character instead of just CGI.
Given that some of the filming for The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes place outside of a movie set, it is perhaps not too surprising that someone was able to grab footage of the set. Another shot reveals the actor inside the body suit, who doesn’t seem to be Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who is set to play The Thing in the upcoming movie.
At any rate, the facial sculpting of the mask looks impressive and the massive body suit matches the towering physique of the larger-than-life superhero. While CGI will likely be used to enhance the character’s movement on screen, the use of practical effects is noteworthy.
Otherwise known as Ben Grimm or Benjamin Jacob “Ben” Grimm, “The Thing” was created by Stan Lee and first appeared in The Fantastic Four comics in 1961. In the superhero group’s origin story, Grimm is the pilot who flies the rocket built by Reed Richards that is pelted by cosmic rays. The result is Ben developing rock-like skin that makes him look like a monster, but gives him incredible endurance and strength.
In the 2025 movie, The Fantastic Four superheroes will be played by a star-studded cast, including Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, and Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Ralph Ineson has been cast as the film’s villain, Galactus. The movie will be directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman, and the screenplay is written by Josh Friedman, who is known for Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and De Palma’s The Black Dahlia.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has a theatrical release date of July 25, 2025.
