Daniel Craig on intimate scenes with Drew Starkey in ‘Queer’
According to Variety, Daniel Craig talked about filming intimate and sex scenes with co-star and “Outer Banks” actor Drew Starkey in “Queer.” His comments on the film’s scenes came during a press conference at the Venice Film Festival. Craig stated that “there’s nothing intimate about filming a sex scene on a movie set” because of the “room full of people watching you.”
Craig said that he and Starkey “wanted to make it as touching and as real and as natural as we possibly could.” Then, describing his co-star, the actor added, “Drew is a wonderful, fantastic, beautiful actor to work with and we kind of had a laugh,” further mentioning, “We tried to make it fun.”
Daniel Craig claimed that he had wanted to work with Luca Guadagnino “for a long time,” responding to a question about how he became a part of “Queer.” Craig explained how he and Guadagnino “met 20 years ago and said, ‘Hey, we want to work together,’ and we finally did.”
The acclaimed actor then mentioned how he would “want to be in it [Queer]” if he “wasn’t in this movie” but saw it. Briefly defining his latest project, the 56-year-old noted, “It’s the kind of film I want to see, I want to make, I want to be out there.”
Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, who plays his breakthrough role, is based on William S. Burroughs’s novel of the same name. The film follows the narrative of William Lee (Craig) and Eugene Allerton (Starkey) as they establish an intimate connection in 1950s Mexico City.
