Naomi Campbell & Anna Wintour Engage in Sly Digs at Award Show

Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour made some sly digs at one another at the 17th Annual Harlem’s Fashion Row Fashion Show & Style Awards. The intense moment between the two fashion icons from Tuesday’s event in New York City has since gone viral. A recent video shows Wintour calling out the model for her tardiness. Campbell didn’t hold back and seemingly clapped back at the Vogue Editor-in-Chief during her award acceptance speech.

Here’s an overview of what happened between Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour at the recent award show.

Naomi Campbell seemingly shades Anna Wintour for ‘late’ remark

An apparent tiff between Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour from the 17th Annual Harlem’s Fashion Row Fashion Show & Style Awards has made headlines. Wintour introduced Campbell on stage, saying she was “presenting tonight to someone who is often late.” The 74-year-old passed over the proceedings to Harper’s Bazaar’s current Editor-in-Chief, Samira Nasr. TMZ reported that Wintour departed early from the event to attend the US Open afterward. In the meantime, Nasr presented the award to Campbell.

After receiving the award, Campbell addressed the crowd with an acceptance speech. She appeared to throw shade at Wintour’s remark on her tardiness, saying, “I want to say this. Everything is meant to work out the way it’s going to work out. It wasn’t my choice to have the other lady. I would much rather have this,” pointing at Nasr, the award’s presenter.

Despite appearing to throw jabs at each other, Naomi Campbell and Anna Wintour also had some very positive things to say about each other. As reported by USA Today, Wintour called the model “bold, bright and entirely, unquestionably herself” and also praised her “bravery” that “has benefited the entire fashion industry.” In return, Campbell delivered some kind words, thanking Wintour, who took the time “to come here and give me the award even though I wasn’t here.”

Campbell added how she first met Wintour in 1987 as “a young Black girl from South London in British Vogue offices.” She also thanked the fashion icon for her unconditional support throughout her career.
