This Is Where Donald Trump Was During Ryan Routh’s Alleged Assassination Attempt

Details of where Donald Trump was when Ryan Routh made his supposed assassination attempt have been revealed. The former president was on the Trump International Golf Club, a golf course that’s about 5 miles away from his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, when Routh was caught by Secret Service agents. The FBI says that he was only 300 to 500 yards away from Trump when he turned to flee from the scene. Here’s a map of where Trump was on the golf course during this alleged second assassination attempt.

Donald Trump was on the fifth hole of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, as shown above in a map from Google Earth, when Routh was spotted by Secret Service agents at 1:30 pm ET. The red star indicates the area on Summit Blvd. that the FBI has cordoned off as it continues to investigate the tree-lined fence where the shooter was, according to The Guardian.

During the incident, Trump was on the putting green of the fifth hole, a 228-yard Par 3, playing with real estate investor Steve Witkoff when they heard gunfire. That is when Secret Service agents, who have a protocol to perform security checks on the hole Trump would be playing at next, fired shots at the suspect.

Local police say that Routh fled the scene and attempted to escape in a car along the I-95 highway, per BBC. A witness claims to have seen the man fleeing from the shrubbery into a black Nissan and provided a photo of the car and its license plate to law enforcement. Routh was caught driving northbound on I-95 about 38 miles from the golf course.

At the scene, the suspect left behind two backpacks, an “AK-47-style” rifle with a scope (though experts say that it is not actually an AK-47), and a GoPro camera along the chain-link fence that outlines the golf course.

Routh appeared in court on Monday morning, September 16, where he was charged with possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number and possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon.

A reporter who had interviewed Routh in the past says that he was in a bad financial situation a few days before his alleged assassination attempt and that in 2023 he was a civilian volunteer of Ukraine’s effort in its war against Russia.
