If you’ve been missing simpler times in the world of Third Man, times when Jack White wasn’t on the receiving end of restraining orders or throwing hate at the Black Keys, we have some good news for you. The White Stripes‘ immortally classic 2003 album Elephant is arriving on remastered vinyl on August 27.
The dissolved duo’s fourth album was previously reissued as a limited-edition, colored-vinyl Record Store Day exclusive back in April, and they flew off the shelves in record time – only to appear with insane markups on ebay shortly thereafter. The larger reissue will feature two black, 180-gram records remastered from the original analog tapes, recorded on vintage equipment at London’s Toe Rag studios.
Third Man offered the following in a statement: “This album is dedicated to the death of the sweetheart and is still as poignant today as when it was originally released in 2003. We draw a firm line here… you can’t consider yourself a White Stripes fan without this record on your record shelf.”
Sure, that’s an oddly snobbish statement from a record label that charges fans $280 a year for a vinyl subscription service, but it’s not necessarily untrue…
As for the current musical goings-on with Jack White and his Third Man imprint, with new solo material, Dead Weather and Raconteurs music in the works, it seems fairly certain we’ll be hearing some fresh sounds in the very near future.
