With fewer than two months to go until both the Xbox One and PS4 launch, there’s a sense that what’s coming is bigger than what we can imagine. Taiwanese manufacturers have seen what the demand is like, and it’s been giving them an overload of business for months.
According to Digitimes, the demand for next-gen console components is remarkably high with order volumes far exceeding those of previous generations. In order to meet launch demand, Sony and Microsoft have been purchasing high volumes of parts required for assembly in China since the second quarter of 2013.
The current generation has lingered for over seven years, leaving consumers craving something new. The PS4 and Xbox One promise a good riddance to the headaches of the last set of consoles, things like sub-HD resolution, slow operating systems, and cumbersome architectures.
Despite economic problems around the world, millions have shown a strong interest in the PS4 and Xbox One, enough to lead to sell-out of stock and inflated re-sale prices on places like eBay. Sony said it would prepare enough consoles to meet launch requirements before they prematurely closed pre-orders.
The PS4 currently leads sales charts, and Sony expects to sell five million PS4s during its first wave. Microsoft’s expectations are high but haven’t been quantified.
