7. “Candyman” – Siouxsie and The Banshees
The second single off of Tinderbox, “Candyman” seems like a wholesome idea, but Siouxsie has other ideas. The cover of the single is scribbled drawing of a kids dancing in a circle around a long pole. You be the judge.
Best Lyric: With a jaundiced wink/See his cunning slink/Oh trust in me my pretty one/come walk with me my helpless one
6. “Lips Like Sugar” – Echo and The Bunnymen
Who doesn’t want the girl they kiss to not have lips like sugar? Sure, this one isn’t directly about candy, but once the sugar is ON the lips, we’re pretty much splitting hairs, no?
Best Lyric: She Calls To You Tonight/To Share This Moonlight/Lips Like Sugar/Sugar Kisses
5. “Hard Candy Cock” – GG Allin
Fewer things are scarier than GG Allin. But yeah, we’re talking about candy roosters. Yep. That’s what this is about.
Best Lyric: Just for you/suck suck suck suck suck suck suck/Hard Candy Cock

4. “Candy Girl” – New Edition
The world’s first exposure to New Edition. Producer Maurice Starr penned “Candy Girl” after hearing the band at a talent show, hoping to have discovered a new Jackson 5. Scariest thing about this? It brought us Bobby Brown. **Shudder**
Best Lyric: There really aren’t any good lyrics, it’s just a fun nostalgia trip.
3. “Chocolate Rain” – Tay Zonday
A independent single posted onto YouTube by Tay Zonday in 2007, “Chocolate Rain” has gone on to over ninety million hits and a hundred parodies. While Zonday hasn’t exactly burnt up the charts, or really done much else, we will always have the chocolate rain.
Best Lyric: Chocolate Rain/The Prisons Make You Wonder Where It Went
2. “Sugar, Sugar” – The Archies
After The Archie’s first single “Bang-Shang-A-Lang” tanked, the manager of the studio musicians turning out songs for the cartoon band duped DJs into playing “Sugar, Sugar” by not letting them know it was an Archies hit. The song blew up popular radio and became the number one single of 1969.
Best Lyric: Again, not much in the way of great lyrics, but the chorus is catchy as hell

1. “I Want Candy” – Bow Wow Wow
Originally a sixties jam from The Strangeloves, “I Want Candy” became the only big hit for Bow Wow Wow. Interestingly, when the compilation album it was one dropped, it barely touched the charts, and neither of the band’s two full lengths amounted to much either. MTV played the hell out of the video, which allowed Bow Wow Wow’s cover to take on a life of its own. Years later, musicians have talked about the greatness of the little heard full-length records.
Best Lyrics: He’s Got Everything That I Desire/Sets The Summer Sun On Fire
