Big Day Out is one of Australia’s premier music festivals, but Melbourne’s leg of the tour featured a different kind of headliner- a police officer who couldn’t turn down a chance for a rave on the dance floor.
The uniformed (and armed) Victorian police officer was filmed tearing up The Boiler Room to a DJ’s spin of “put your f#*kin’ hands up”.
Despite the presence of Big Day Out headliners Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire (plus the likes of Snoop in full force, The Lumineers, The Hives and Major Lazer), the fantastic antics of one officer has stolen the show.
The policewoman’s moves had the crowd of about 1,000 people going, with one festival-goer telling the Herald Sun, “There were two cops on the edge of the tent watching. The female cop began to just have a bit of a boogie, starting off slowly with some foot tapping… we thought it was great of her to get into the spirit of what the Big Day Out is about – enjoying yourself.”
Even the Police Association Victoria are thrilled with her work.
“The member in our view has taken part in a great public relations exercise,” spokesperson Bruce McKenzie said.
“Victoria Police wouldn’t be able to pay for the public relations that this member has displayed at no cost to the organisation.
