Twitch Streaming is Coming to Mobile Gaming

Twitch streaming is coming to mobile gaming for the first time ever via the game Asphalt 8: Airborne for iOS.

In a press release today, Twitch revealed that the game will be the first to feature live streaming functionality, and that developer Gameloft will debut its broadcasting capabilities on March 20th, during the week of GDC 2014. There will be a 24-hour live-streaming event in order to broadcast the game’s features.

“This first-ever mobile game integration with Twitch opens the door for gamers to broadcast and share gameplay experiences like never before,” said Baudouin Corman, VP of Publishing for the Americas, Gameloft. “As one of our most popular games, Asphalt 8: Airborne made perfect sense to integrate the Twitch mobile SDK, and we can’t wait to see the excitement it brings to our users.”

Matthew DiPietro, Twitch’s VP of Marketing, spoke of the significance of mobile Twitch integration, saying: “Live broadcasting represents one of the most important shifts in the way people play games. Twitch has quickly found a home on consoles, so by partnering with Gameloft to launch the first streaming-enabled mobile game brings us one step closer to being everywhere that gamers are. Also, by being integrated into Asphalt 8: Airborne, one of the highest rated mobile games, should ensure it resonates with our community.”

Gameloft’s live-streaming event will begin at 10am PT on the developer’s official Twitch channel. It will also feature an interview session with the developers of the game.

Asphalt 8: Airborne‘s Twitch integration will be coming soon via an update to the game. This update will also include new events, new cars and a new user interface.
