Break out the flannel and fire up the “Portlandia” marathon, because R.E.M’s Peter Buck and Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney are recording with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.
The band super-Earth, fronted by Buck and Tucker, alongside guitarist Scott McCaughey (Minus 5), drummer Bill Rieflin (Swans, Ministry) and guitarist Kurt Bloch, is just getting off the ground with a recent live debut. They have now looped in Novoselic, and as evidenced by a tweet from filmmaker, documentarian and music video director Lance Bangs, this isn’t a Seattle coffee-shop hypothesis on 90s-cred trifecta bands – this shit is real.
Bangs captioned the image, “Ex-R.E.M., Sleater-Kinney, Nirvana, Flipper, Swans, Ministry, Young Fresh Fellows studio session.” No news yet as to what the sessions will yield, or whether Novoselic will join super-Earth as a member. We’ll keep you posted as details develop.
