Even though Call of Duty: Ghosts received the poorest review scores in the series’ post-Modern Warfare history, it seems that the advent of new consoles has proven to be hugely beneficial to its sales numbers.
Activision reported that Ghosts has outsold all other next-gen titles on Sony and Microsoft’s latest systems, though it is still refusing to reveal specific sales numbers. This leads us to suspect that while the game may have sold like hot cakes, it likely pulled in less numbers than its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is the second best-selling game across North America and Europe in 2014 so far, charting just below Activision’s own Skylanders Swap Force.
Activision Blizzard revealed that it had generated $1.1 billion in sales in the first quarter of this year, which was better than it had expected but it is still down 16% from its total in Q1 2013.
The company’s released figures also indicated that its profits had declined, with it generating $456 million in the first quarter of 2013 as opposed to $293 million this year.
