Sony’s PlayStation Network is back up after a DDoS attack, bringing an end to a 24-hour period in which the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita’s online features were inaccessible.
As we reported yesterday, the PSN was brought down after a distributed denial of service, in which a team of users branding themselves the ‘Lizard Squad’ flooded Sony’s servers and brought them to their knees. This same group of users also diverted Sony Online Entertainment’s President John Smedley’s flight with a bomb scare, after posting the below tweet:
Fortunately the PSN is now back online in North America, though users may still experience some stability issues. This news comes after the official Ask PlayStation account tweeted the following message: “Sony Network Ent. has reported that PSN service is returning, but you may experience slowness or login issues as the network stabilizes.”

However, PSN wasn’t the only target of the DDoS attacks, as Blizzard’s Battle.net and EA’s Origin were also brought down. At the time of this writing, all three services are now up and operating in the US, though no official statement has been given by Blizzard nor EA.
Unfortunately, the attackers have now reportedly targeted Xbox Live, as users experienced some problems with party chat and server issues whilst playing Diablo 3, which recently released on consoles. As Diablo 3 is a Blizzard game, this likely means that this attack is coming from the publisher’s end, and not Microsoft’s. However, Lizard Squad did seemingly suggest that Xbox Live would be their next target, tweeting: “Sup XBL Login, just performing tests.” Some users reported that they were having trouble logging in to the service, though Microsoft seemingly quickly rectified that issue and has made no reference to the DDoS attacks.
