The Summer drought is over. For many that’s a relief, while for video game addicts like myself that signals the imminent destruction of wallets and bank accounts.
September has an incredible list of games to share, ranging from sports and racing, to rhythm and role-playing. There’s something for everyone, and the potential for year defining surprises (i.e. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor ). Now that we’re in September, there’s no looking back.
There are over 30 games coming out this month, but we’ve filtered the list down to the 10 we think you need to know about. Check them out in our September calendar below.
September 2014 Video Game Release Calendar
September 2nd - The Sims 4
In a few ways, The Sims 4 looks like the next-gen Sims game fans have been waiting for. Its new Building Editor and Create-A-Sim are full of improvements, giving you more options than ever before, and by a long shot. It also addresses some of the franchise's biggest weaknesses, such as its clunky controls and unreasonable amount of time spent doing nothing while your sims move around.
There have been some questionable design decisions to remove features from previous games . Despite that, there are new additions to the franchise that are sure to help soften the blow, and possibly even more than make up for it.
Platform(s): PC
September 9th - Dance Central Spotlight
Coming exclusively to Xbox One, Dance Central Spotlight is a new addition to one of the best-selling rhythm games of all-time.
This new game is priced affordably at $10 for entry, although tons of post-purchase musical content will be available. There are new tracks, improved visuals, as well as new gameplay mechanics to mix things up a little bit. If you're hungry for a good party game, chances are Dance Central Spotlight will hit the spot.
Platform(s): Xbox One
September 9th - Destiny
Hailed as the most anticipated game of 2014, Destiny is a title with a lot riding on it. It's a multiplatform game by Bungie (the creators of Halo ), meaning at the very least it'll be a highly polished experience. It's also a game that Sony has invested millions of dollars into for exclusive content. You can expect a huge marketing storm soon.
Destiny is an open-world FPS with deep RPG elements. You level up, complete quests with or without friends, engage with other players in online lobbies, and even enter competitive online games. It's certainly ambitious, but can it justify the hype?
Platform(s): PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360
September 9th - NHL 15
It's rare that EA skips a launch window of a new console with any of its EA Sports games, but that's exactly what it did with NHL 14 . Instead, it invested heavily in development of a proper next-gen ice hockey game. That game comes out this month.
NHL 15 brings with it new physics, a significantly improved presentation including authentic arenas, more exciting crowds, and adjustments to game mechanics. This could very well end up becoming the best NHL game in history.

September 16th - ArcheAge
There just so happens to be a huge MMORPG coming out this month. The game is ArcheAge , a title published by Trion Worlds (Rift ). It's gotten a lot of buzz during beta. It targets the crowd that enjoys Lineage and other korean style MMOs with its emphasis on grinding and politics.

September 16th - Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call
Final Fantasy might be known for its stories and characters, but its music is equally as important. Some of the best video game music ever belongs to the franchise, and Square Enix saw that as an opportunity in 2011 to make a game centered around its soundtracks.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call is a sequel to the 2012 game, bringing along with it over 100 new songs, including those from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Final Fantasy Tactics . It also has three new game modes to mix things up.
Platform(s): 3DS
September 23rd - FIFA 15
Following the conclusion of the 2014 World Cup, there is a ton of hype for FIFA 15 . It retains the simulative nature of previous games, but enhances the sensory experience with new emotional intensity from players and a dynamic match presentation with enhanced commentary. There has also been an overhaul to dribbling making it more responsive, as well as some new strategic options added for serious football/soccer fans.
Platform(s): PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, iOS, Android, PS Vita
September 26th - Hyrule Warriors
Have you ever played a Dynasty Warriors game and thought, "I wish I were playing as Link." Or, have you ever been playing as Link and wanted to be combating armies of enemies rather than single foes? If your answer was yes to either of those questions, Hyrule Warriors is for you.
Developed by Omega Force and Team Ninja, Hyrule Warriors stars Link in a hack-and slash game. Unlike The Legend of Zelda , story is de-emphasized for gameplay where there are tons of weapons and items to unlock. It looks like fun, and is a great addition to the Wii U library for the month.
Platform(s): Wii U
September 30th - Forza Horizon 2
Forza Horizon is back! Unlike the main Forza Motorsport series, Forza Horizon is set in an open-world environment with a focus on arcade gameplay. You'll drive at over 180 miles per hour, customize your car, avoid head-on collisions with traffic, and more. There's also a day/night cycle and a dynamic weather system to mix things up.
What really makes Forza Horizon 2 stand out is its world which has been mapped from the most beautiful regions of France and Italy. You can take shortcuts through vineyards, and stop by Côte d'Azur for a beautiful view. of the ocean. Enjoy!
