Pete Doherty Wants Jack White to Produce New Libertines Album

Pete Doherty has revealed that former The White Stripes frontman Jack White has expressed interest in producing the next Libertines album.

The Libertines are planning the release of their third LP in 2015, though a producer has yet to be attached to the album. Speaking to French station D8, Doherty said: “Jack White says he’d like to do it. I’d love him to do it, it would be amazing, but I don’t want to get too hopeful”.

The Libertines’ two released LPs, Up the Bracket and their self-titled sophomore effort, were both produced by The Clash guitarist Mick Jones. While Jack White would certainly be an interesting candidate to take the helm of the production of The Libertines’ next release, the musician is currently scheduled to release a new album with his Dead Weather side-project in 2015, along with continuing to tour Lazaretto until November. Considering that Pete Doherty and his bandmate Carl Barat are infamously poor at timekeeping, we’ll mark this one right under “we’ll believe it when we see it”.

The Libertines’ reunion has only seen them play three gigs in five months, and considering that Doherty is known for being rather flighty when it comes to knuckling down and making music, it’s debatable whether the band’s scheduled third album will see the light of day. Their next gigs are set to take place at London’s Alexandra Palace on the 26th, 27th and 28th of September.
