Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has professed his love for Manchester band Oasis.
Writing in The Guardian Ulrich stated that Oasis is the band that “changed [his] life”, noting that “Oasis has been the soundtrack to my life for the last 20 years on this wonderful planet.”
“If you didn’t live in England at the time, it may be difficult to truly understand the cultural impact and significance Oasis had on all things English in the mid 90s,” Ulrich continued. “Wherever or whoever you were when it was going down, you felt it … in the streets, in the pubs, the music press, on the radio, in the gossip rags, the concert halls, and affecting everything from the way people dressed, the way they cut their hair, what football team they supported, the way people communicated, one’s accent … the list goes on and on.
“The Oasis phenomenon cut across all shapes, sizes, boundaries and classes. Everybody knew Oasis, and in some way were impacted by them.”
Ulrich had previously stated in an interview that Noel Gallagher’s ambivalent attitude towards cocaine had made him quit the drug. “I read an interview with Noel Gallagher, in which he said, ‘I just stopped doing cocaine’,” Ulrich said. “I thought that was really cool. It felt so fresh, so honest, so pure – I love that side of him. I’ve never had an addictive personality, so I woke up one day and said, ‘Enough’.”

There is currently much speculation surrounding a possible Oasis comeback performance at Glastonbury 2015, despite the band having split up due to the tumultuous relationship shared between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. In April, Liam tweeted “Oasis LG,” which led many fans to believe that the band will possibly be reuniting. Noel has frequently stated that this will not be the case, and that he would only return to his brother’s side if he was “bankrupt”.
