Watch Dogs PS4 Sold More Copies than Assassin’s Creed Unity on All Platforms in the UK

Ubisoft likely has mixed feelings in reaction to the news that Watch Dogs on the PS4 outperformed the sales of Assassin’s Creed Unity on ALL its platforms in the UK. Both games were developed by Ubisoft, with Watch Dogs being a hugely successful new IP, but it seems that the latest Assassin’s Creed has suffered in the sales department in the UK due to its widely reported performance issues.

Assassin’s Creed Unity debuted at the number two spot in the UK video game charts, sitting in second place with 162,480 units sold while Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare remained in the top spot, selling 178,480 units in its second week.

Watch Dogs shifted 190,000 copies in the UK on the PS4 alone.

Back in May, the PS4 version of Watch Dogs shifted 190,000 copies, while the Xbox One version of the game sold 105,000 units. Of course, that was a much slower month for new releases in comparison to the packed-out final months of 2014. Assassin’s Creed Unity still performed better than Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the previous entry in the series, which also released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 while Unity is solely a current-gen game, releasing on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

However, as Assassin’s Creed is viewed as Ubisoft’s biggest franchise, the company will likely be looking at how their new, untested IP managed to outperform its latest AC game by such a considerable amount. It remains to be seen how well Unity performed in other regions, but I hope that this will lead to Ubisoft not releasing another game in such a poor state again.
