Johnny Depp‘s wife, Amber Heard, has slammed the Australian Government over May’s DogGate scandal, which saw the couple’s pet Yorkshire terriers, Pistol and Boo, threatened with death for arriving on our shores illegally.
In an interview with Sunrise promoting her new film Magic Mike XXL, the American actress said herself and Depp would not be forgetting the ordeal any time soon.
“I have a feeling we’re going to avoid the land Down Under from now on, just as much as we can thanks to certain politicians there,” Heard stated. “I don’t know, I guess everyone tries to go for their 15 minutes [of fame], including some government officials.”
The “certain politicians” and “some government officials” Heard passive-aggressively alludes to no doubt includes Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce, whom at the time of the ordeal proclaimed that it was time Pistol and Boo “buggered off back to the United States” or else face euthanasia.
“If we start letting movie stars — even though they’ve been the sexiest man alive twice — to come into our nation then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody?” he hyperbolised dramatically at the time.
According to the Daily Mail, The Department of Agriculture is still investigating Depp for breaching quarantine laws by bringing Pistol and Boo to the Gold Coast, where he’d been busy portraying Captain Jack Sparrow on the set of the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean flick.
It’s believed the actor had to charter a $300,000 flight for the pooches, who did indeed “bugger off back to the United States”, in true Hollywood style, just before their time ran out.
Meanwhile, shooting for Pirates Of The Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales is currently on hold, while Depp recovers in the US from a hand injury he sustained during filming.
