Heaven Adores You, the moving documentary about the life and music of the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith, has announced one-night-only screenings for Australian audiences later this month.
Directed by Nickolas Rossi, Heaven Adores You sees some of the people who were closest to Smith tell his story in an intimate and candid way, featuring 20 previously unreleased pieces of his music.
The film premiered in May 2014 and is currently available digitally, but will be screened in Australia for the first time outside of a film festival on 24th and 25th November, with only one screening in each of the following cities: Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide.
“This has been a labour of love from the very first day we started working on this film, says producer Marc Smolowitz. “It brings us so much joy to see that Elliott’s life and music will be shown around the world.”
Smith, who died in 2003 of allegedly self-inflicted stab wounds to the chest, released his first solo album Roman Candle in 1994 after performing as part of Portland, Oregon band Heatmiser. Smith went on to release five studio albums and two posthumous compilations – the latest being 2007’s New Moon. He was 34 when he died.
