Popular Twitch Streamer Gosu’s Account Suspended After Discussing Suicide and Depression

Popular Twitch streamer Gosu had his account suspended last night, after discussing his depression and his plans to commit suicide.

Gosu is a popular figure in the League of Legends online community, with him having over 800,000 followers and 58 million views on his MushIsGosu account. However, Twitch took the steps to put an end to his streaming session yesterday (January 1st), after he drunkenly told his streaming partner Trick that he was planning to commit suicide on January 10th. A message on the channel read: “The community has closed this channel due to terms of service violations,” though it has now been brought back online.

After the stream had concluded, Gosu received an outpouring of support from the League of Legends community, prompting him to further elaborate upon the comments he had made during the stream and discuss his 8-year long battle with depression.

Informing his Twitter followers that the police had arrived at his house, presumably due to Twitch administrators having contacted them out of fear for his safety, Gosu then went on to detail how the support from fans of his streaming had helped him through this difficult period of his life, tweeting the following series of messages:

The current top post on the League of Legends subreddit discusses the divisive stream, with many in the game’s online community offering words of encouragement to the streamer. The post reads: “If Gosu is reading this, I speak for a LOT of people when I say although depression is a horrible thing to experience, suicide isn’t the only option. You have a lot people who love & care about you and can get you help. Your perception can change. How you feel right now isn’t how you’ll always feel. It can get better.”

Twitch appeared to have shut down the account in order to bring an end to the stream, in order for Gosu to receive help. Valiyon, another Twitch streamer and friend of Gosu’s, tweeted the following after Gosu’s account had been closed:

Gosu recently made waves in the League of Legends community after streaming with a microphone, after being known for providing no commentary during his streams. He hasn’t streamed since his account was taken offline yesterday, and hasn’t stated when he will next appear on Twitch.
