This week, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot movie officially began production, but you won’t have to wait long to fill the Power Rangers void in your life! On Wednesday, March 2, Boom! Studios is launching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1, a modernized update of the original team!
Writer Kyle Higgins and artist Hendry Prasetya are bringing the new adventures of the Power Rangers to life. Or more accurately, these are previously unseen stories that will flesh out the characters. Higgins has set the story shortly after Tommy Oliver a.k.a. the Green Ranger joined the team. The problem is that Tommy’s new team doesn’t entirely trust him yet, and the people of Angel Grove are puzzled as to why the previously villainous Green Ranger is now with the rest of the Rangers.
Hipster Bulk and Skull are apparently video podcasters in this incarnation, as their Power Rangers themed show is the framing device for the first few preview pages of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers # 1. Some of the actual Rangers are even asked to comment on the Green Ranger, which creates an uncomfortable situation for Tommy!
Bulk and Skull are also the stars of a backup story written by Steve Orlando and artist Corin Howell.
As for Tommy, he’ll have his hands full winning over his new team and avoiding the grasp of Rita Repulsa, the Power Rangers’ initial adversary! Rita created the Green Ranger, and she’s not about to let him slip away from her control without a fight!
