The Flash, Arrow & DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Get Early Renewals

The CW’s Fall 2016 schedule is going to look a lot like its current line up. In a surprise move, The CW has renewed 11 of its drama series. The CW’s upcoming drama, Containment is now the only series on the network whose future isn’t assured!

All three DC superhero dramas will be back, as The Flash returns for a third season, Arrow gets its fifth season, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stakes out a second season. However, there’s bound to be some casting changes in Legends of Tomorrow when it returns. Both Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are slated to star on Fox’s Prison Break revival miniseries, which could mean the end of their time on The CW.

Veteran series Supernatural will bow for its 12th season, breaking the record run of former WB hit, 7th Heaven, which had 11 seasons under its belt. According to Deadline, Supernatural stars  Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are signed through a potential 13th season of the series, which means the Winchester bros. are far from finished.

The Vampire Diaries and its companion series, The Originals will both be back, for their eighth and fourth seasons, respectively. Jane the Virgin is slated to get its third season, as is iZombie. Reign and The 100 will each rule over a fourth season, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will get a second season as well.

In a statement, The CW’s Mark Pedowitz said “The CW has become home to some of the most critically-acclaimed shows on broadcast television, with a wide array of fantastic scripted series across the week, ranging from musical comedy, to superhero action, to gritty sci-fi dramas. As we continue to further our strategy of more year-round original programming, picking up these 11 series for the 2016-2017 season puts us in a great position of having proven, high-quality shows to launch in the fall as well as midseason and summer of 2017.”

Despite the crowded schedule, The CW is expected to add a few new series to its lineup, but probably in limited runs of 13 episodes or less. The CW will announce its fall schedule in May.
