While the third season of Penny Dreadful wasn’t slated to drop until this Sunday, May 1, Showtime has put up the season premiere six days early on Showtime Anytime and Showtime Now. When we last saw the leading characters of Penny Dreadful, things were looking grim. The monstrous side of Ethan (Josh Hartnett) led him to allow himself to be returned to America in a cage, while Eva Green’s Vanessa seemingly gave up on her faith in God. Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) left for Africa to bury his friend Sembene (Danny Sapani), and Frankenstein’s (Harry Treadaway) heart was broken when Lily (Billie Piper) joined forces with her new lover, Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).
The third season finds Vanessa institutionalized and under the care of Dr. Seward (Patti LuPone), while Wes Studi makes his debut as Kaetenay, an Apache warrior with ties to Ethan who may be Sir Malcolm’s latest ally. Frankenstein’s creature, Caliban (Rory Kinnear) also makes his return despite his previous promise to abandon humanity.
