Deadpool Out Meta’s ‘Deadpool’, Appears In Own Honest Trailer

Marvel’s epic Deadpool has been given its own official Honest Trailer which was always going to happen. But what’s this? Deadpool? Appearing in his own honest trailer? And pointing out his own plot holes? While swearing? Well, that’s just about as Deadpool / Ryan Reynolds / meta as things can get.

Known for their brutal, well, honest approach, Honest Trailers are the last place you’d expect to see a cameo from an actual actor from the film they’re reviewing. It takes thick skin, or in Deadpool’s instance, scientifically modified regenerating skin to handle the serving. He takes it like a champ and even points out some things on his own accord.

Thinks such as the tired Hollywood concept of ‘Revenge by numbers’, how this is actually Marvel’s second attempt at the anti-hero, the fact that Deadpool constantly breaks the 4th wall throughout the film, and the film’s attempt to be both a superhero film AND an anti-superhero film are all highlighted and discussed.

We have to make mention of this particular zinger which compares the film’s intended audience vs. the audience it seems to appeal to:

“Suit up for the R-rated film that you had to be 17 to see, but 16 to fully appreciate.”

However, you can’t argue with facts. Honest Trailer makes considerable mention of just how successful the film was, plot holes and all. Deadpool grossed higher than any other superhero film, any other X-Men franchise and any other R-rated film (bar Passion Of The Christ). The clip credits this success largely to the fact that fans demanded seeing the entire film after some test footage was leaked, labelling it an “accidental hit” for that reason.

The success of Deadpool is most likely going to result in a wave of R-rated superhero films, which is great news to fans of the genre.

So as Deadpool puts it, “When Aquaman starts making jokes about Sperm whales, you have me to thank.”

Truly Deadpool is the hero we need, but do not deserve.
