Activision Isn’t Releasing the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Trilogy on Current-Gen Consoles

A new listing for the as-yet-unconfirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Trilogy suggests that the game won’t be making its way to current-gen consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox One.

Best Buy‘s site lists the collection for release on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but there are no details regarding a PS4 and Xbox One release of the trilogy. It also appears that the collection only contains the original versions of the games, with them likely not having received the graphical overhaul of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, which is set to release alongside Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

The box for the collection, which contains all three Modern Warfare games, also notes that it includes Modern Warfare 2‘s Stimulus Package map pack, with the items description stating that it will boast each game’s single-player campaign along with their respective online multiplayer components. The game is listed for release on May 17th, with it retailing for $29.99.

There are no Call of Duty games that are currently backwards compatible on the Xbox One, meaning that if Microsoft were to introduce backwards compatibility for the Modern Warfare Trilogy, it would effectively allow Xbox One owners to play the Modern Warfare games for the first time on current-gen consoles. However, considering that doing so may negatively impact upon the sales of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s Legacy Edition, which includes Modern Warfare Remastered, it’s unlikely that this will be the case.
