Blizzard has brightened up a little girl’s day, after the Overwatch developer used one of her drawings in order to create concept art for a character in the upcoming game.
The character, which the girl has named “Birst,” was brought to Blizzard’s attention after her father Shane Hickey tweeted the drawing to the game company, adding: “She’d love to know your thoughts.”

Blizzard responded by branding the drawing “amazing and adorable,” but then went one step further after revealing that their artists had been so inspired by Birst, that they had created their own fan art for the character.

The little girl was clearly ecstatic about Blizzard’s sketch, with Shane replying: “The highlight of her life thus far. She loves the game and can’t wait for release night. Love it so much!”

While Birst won’t appear in the Overwatch base game, the large amount of attention Blizzard’s sketch has received could well stand to convince the studio to add the character into the game in future DLC. While this is purely speculation for the time being, this wouldn’t present the first time that Blizzard has allowed a player of one of their games to influence the creation of a brand new character – this is the same company who added Ian Bates a.k.a. “Red Shirt Guy” into World of Warcraft, after all – so this may not be the last we see of Birst.
Overwatch will be released on May 24th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
