Track Premiere: The Dead Ships Shine Relentless Hope Through ‘First Mistakes’

We’re proud to premiere the latest offering from The Dead Ships today, a previous Band of The Month featured artist on Crave. They’re back with a new album, CITYCIDE, set for release on June 24 via Nevado music (pre-order), and “First Mistakes” offers an enticing taste of what fans can expect in the new collection.

The title of the album was conceived as a reference to the sad fact that when people choose the Golden Gate Bridge as the location to take their own lives, they do so facing the city that they’re leaving behind. The poignancy is palpable, and with good reason: many of the songs poured out of singer/guitarist Devlin McCluskey in the wake of his best friend’s suicide. The confusion and grief was channeled into a new creative element, which contributes to CITYCIDE’s considerable depth.

Nevertheless, the thick cloud of “First Mistakes”‘power-pop chords offers a buoyancy amid the heaviness, with the message of the chorus calling out brightly: “It was good to be alive!”

Fans can pre-order CITYCIDE on iTunes today.

Keep up with the band at their official site, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.
