Leaked copies of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare are already doing the rounds, an issue that is proving to be commonplace for triple-A video game releases these days. Sledgehammer Games’ studio head Glen Schofield has now addressed the leak, which even saw the entire game being streamed via Twitch for the whole world to see, saying how a leak of this magnitude harms a game’s developer.
Taking to Twitter Schofield acknowledged the leak, writing: “We took 3 years 2 make a game. Kept it quiet 4 the fans & it has to be stolen & leaked a week b4. That sucks. A real bummer. Thanks a lot.”
In a response to a follower, he continued: “It is a big deal to us because discovery while playing is part of the fun. It will all be good, just saying.”
The game’s publisher Activision is now hard at work removing leaked video footage and images of the game from the web, though in these circumstances resistance is all but futile. Schofield has said that he was expecting the game to be leaked prior to its release, though that won’t make it any less of a bitter pill to swallow for the dev.

Fortunately, Call of Duty continues to be a money-making behemoth and so it is unlikely that this leak will harm sales of the game much, if at all. In instances such as this it always baffles me that people would actively seek out spoilers for a game they are excited to play, but curiosity frequently gets the better of us mere mortals.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is set to be released on November 3rd in the US, with it being released internationally on November 4th. Following the mediocre critical reception Call of Duty: Ghosts received, Activision will be hoping that Advanced Warfare will fare far better in this regard and continue Call of Duty‘s dominance of the FPS genre.
