After opening the slick packaging to the Razer Salmosa, I loaded up the driver disk in my pc to get this show on the road. Following a quick install I was presented with a multitude of options to tweak, allowing me the ideal performance I want out of my Salmosa. Not only could I shift around the sensitivity, both y and x-axis, but also could determine the click speed, mouse button layout, and if I wanted to use it left-handed or right-handed. Although I don’t change much from the default settings, it was nice to have the option to do so. Every individual has different preferences, much like a finger print, and it’s nice to see Razer cater to everyone’s wants and needs.
The Salmosa also has mini switches on the under-side of the device that let you choose your dpi setting (800, 1800) as well as the polling rate (125, 500, and 1000Hz). This let’s you have a blazing fast mouse pointer if you clock the mouse up to 1800 dpi, perfect for the 1st person shooter fan who needs to have a quick turn around speed. But being given these options is also nice because it makes the Razer Salmosa a casual mouse as well as a gamer’s dream. Clock the thing to 800 dpi and the 1000Hz and the mouse pointer glides around the screen smoothly without feeling like your eyes can’t keep up with it bouncing about.
But even with all these options, does the Razer Salmosa feel right in the grasp of your hand? I mean, it’s probably one of the most important aspects of a gaming mouse. Even if it has a million features, what the hell’s the point if it doesn’t feel right? Well luckily, the Razer Salmosa feels fantastic. The curves of the device match that of the hand and it makes for a smooth experience that isn’t cumbersome to hold.
For a $39 gaming mouse, the Razer Salmosa is hard to top. It has plenty of customization options to tweak to your gaming style, as well as being more than accommodating for casual computing functions. The Salmosa also looks great with its black finish and no laser light shining underneath. It’s very sleek. I can’t really find anything wrong with the Razer Salmosa, so if you’re looking for a new mouse for your pc gaming, this is a great choice for the price.
