‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Movie Reboot Goes to Hell

It was late last year that we learned that Warner Bros. was going back to Sunnydale for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer feature film. Yes, the pop culture phenomenon based on an unpopular feature film seemed destined to become an unpopular feature film again, because Warner Bros. decided not to involve Joss Whedon or anyone else who elevated the original source material (which was, admittedly, also Whedon’s) to an iconic and brilliant television series. They handed the writing duties to a comparatively novice screenwriter, Whit Anderson, who has reportedly turned in a draft of the screenplay that the studio is reportedly very unhappy with.

Hero Complex reports that Anderson’s script has been rejected by the studio, sending the remake straight back into the Hellmouth from whence it came. An unnamed source told the website, “[Anderson] came in with some great ideas and she had reinvented some of the lore and it was pretty cool but in the end there just wasn’t enough on the page.” That’s sad news for Whit Anderson – with Christmas right around the corner, no less – but good news for Buffy fans, most of whom would rather see future incarnations of the franchise remain under the watchful eye of Whedon & Co. We imagine many of them are singing right about now, or is it just us?

CraveOnline will be back with more Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie news after we try to get out of this parking ticket.
