Hit Drama Murdoch Mysteries Bought By US Network

“Murdoch Mysteries,” which airs on Citytv as well as CBC, will now be shown on Ovation network in the States – Shaftesbury and ITV Studios Global Entertainment announced today that the series will be heading south.

Already enjoying an immensely popular seventh season, “Murdoch Mysteries” will broadcast on Ovation in back-to-back episodes on Saturdays at 8pm starting with season one. The show is based on a series of novels written by author Maureen Jennings set in late 1890’s Toronto and follows William Murdoch, a cutting-edge (for that time) forensic investigator. It stars Yannick Bisson (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Listener”), Thomas Craig (“Hidden”), Jonny Harris (“Match Game”), and Helene Joy (“Detentionaire”).

The series has already been licensed in more than 100 countries worldwide. According to a press release, Season 7, which is currently in production in Toronto and Southern Ontario, premiered on CBC in Canada on September 30, 2013 to a series-high rating of 1.4 million. Season six completed its run in May 2013 as Canada’s top-rated homegrown drama and CBC’s most-watched scripted program for the winter season, with an average television viewership of 1.2 million.
