One of the worst ways to experience Thor is through this god-awful Syfy made for TV movie. Thor dies, but then comes back, then goes on vacation, then looks for treasure, then dreams of a hammer, then looks for the hammer. Bad acting, horrible effects, this Swedish made film makes you wish Black Metal bands were more into burning down film productions than churches.
Another Syfy TV movie abomination, this time produced by The Asylum, a company that specifically makes movies that copy big budget films in order to lure in viewers. Ex “21 Jump Street” star Richard Grieco plays Loki, and does so in such a horrible fashion it borderlines on performance art. Loki steals Mjolnir and Thor, played by an unknown carbon copy of Chris Hemsworth, must get it back. Avoid both this film and Hammer Of The Gods unless you have copious amounts of weed to smoke before viewing.
Probably my favorite of the Marvel animated series, “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” focused on the core of the Avengers, and pulled many of the stories right from the comics. It was extraordinarily well written, and really visceral, so much so that it tipped the scale from kid’s show into something adults could get into. Sadly, it was canceled after two seasons.
Episode: “Field Trip”
After an accident summons a Frost Giant to Earth, Thor arrives to aid Spider-Man in his battle with the chilly monster. Problem is, a medallion around the Frost Giant’s neck turns Thor into a frog. A very nice nod to the Walt Simonson Thor run.
After scrapping “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” the world was introduced to a new animated take on the Avengers. Completely produced by Marvel, and tying in nicely with the “Ultimate Spider-Man” show, this Avengers series mimics the film franchises more so than “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.” The costume worn by Thor comes from the J. Michael Straczynski run, and Thor tends to smash cups once he’s done drinking.
