CES 2014 VIDEO: Michael Bay Walks Off-Stage During Samsung News Conference

There's a reason directors are usually behind the camera — and not in front of one.

Case in point: Transformers director and action spectacle extraordinaire Michael Bay had a rough time yesterday at Samsung's news conference on the opening day of the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show.

Bay, whose made a career out of the bigger is better style of filmmaking, flamed out on one of the biggest stages possible as the director joined Samsung Executive Vice President Joe Stinziano to introduce the company's new 105-inch curved television.

As you'll see in the video posted above, Bay gets tangled up in a teleprompter malfunction, begins the opening line of his pre-prepared statement — then hits vapor lock.

Stinziano handled the momentarily dazed director like a pro, trying to get Bay back on track.

"The type is all off on this…sorry, I'll just wing this," Bay told the crowd.

But after almost immediately hitting another verbal brick wall, Bay muttered a quick "excuse me…I'm sorry" and beat a hasty retreat off stage, leaving a stunned Stinziano holding the bag alone.

On his blog site, Bay later explained what happened, saying "Wow!  I just embarrassed myself at CES."

"I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar," Bay said. "I got too excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down — then I walked off. I guess live shows aren't my thing."

Thankfully for both Samsung and Bay, the director's foul-up probably won't sell the company one fewer 105-inch mega-TV.  But ya gotta hope Transformers 4 goes a little better than this for Bay.
