When I was a kid, I used to collect aluminum cans and to take them over to the recycling center for pocket money. I’d like to believe I provided just a little piece of the 2015 Ford F-150.
Debuting in Detroit at NAIAS 2014, the 2015 F-150 now features an aluminum alloy body around and improved steel frame. Those military-grade aluminum alloys make the new F-150 up to 700 pounds lighter — improving fuel efficiency and upgrading both and handling and stopping distance. Its beefiness reduced, a smaller engine can power it. Ford dropped in a 2.7 liter, turbo-assisted plant under the hood.
Give Ford credit for producing a major structural redesign for a vehicle that hasn’t problem selling for decades. The F-150 is already the top selling pickup in the world, and Ford reports it had been for 37 years now. Amongst all vehicles, only the Toyota Camry outsells the modern F-150.
To keep up with the times, the upcoming F-150 will offer a 360-degree camera, eight-inch “productivity screen” with new truck apps and trailer hitch assist.
