Last November, “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas and his collaborator Diane Rugierro signed a deal with The CW to adapt the comic book series, “IZombie” for television. Now “iZombie” is one step closer to landing its own TV show.
TVLine is reporting that The CW has officially ordered a pilot episode of “iZombie” as it remains in contention for the fall 2014 season.
Originally created by writer Chris Roberson and artist Mike Allred, “iZombe” was DC Comics’ Vertigo line in 2010. The book followed Gwendolyn Price, a young zombie who could pass as an ordinary human as long as she ate at least one brain per month.
For the TV incarnation of “IZombie,” certain creative liberties have apparently been taken. The biggest change seems to be Gwen’s new career in the coroner’s office, which she uses to get access to human brains. Because Gwen can gain the memories of each brain that she eats, she uses that information to catch murderers alongside a police detective and a medical examiner who are in on her secret double life.
So “iZombie” appears to hit the sweet spot of procedural and fantasy that broadcast networks love so much.
In other CW news, the proposed “Supernatural” spinoff has been given a title: “Supernatural: Tribes.” The premise for “Tribes” will be explored in a backdoor pilot episode of “Supernatural” later this season, but for now all we know is that tribes will focus on the clash between monsters and hunters in Chicago.
