California Anti-Video Game Lawmaker Busted in Crazy Criminal Sting

A self-righteous California lawmaker who has crusaded for years to protect children from the evils of video games is now facing 100 years behind bars on federal corruption and conspiracy charges.

Oh, irony…

San Francisco Democrat Leland Yee, 65, was busted Wednesday as part of an FBI sting operation that also netted reputed Bay Area gangster Raymond Fong, also known as “Shrimp Boy.”

Yep.  A legislator who, as Crave gaming site Game Revolution pointed out, wanted video games regulated like cigarettes and booze was allegedly cozy with a gangster named Shrimp Boy.

Sometimes, you just can’t make this stuff up.

The affidavit spinning out of the probe, which also leveled charges against two-dozen other defendants, claims Yee circumvented state laws in soliciting campaign donations.  In a shocking egregious charge, prosecutors claim Yee agreed to “facilitate a meeting with the arms dealer” so that a donor to his political campaign could buy a cache of weapons.

If this all sounds like something out of Grand Theft Auto…well, that’s because it pretty much is.

Even allowing Yee the presumption of innocence until he’s convicted of these charges, it all seems to be a particularly poignant note of hypocracy considering Yee’s holier-than-thou stance on the gaming industry.

Here’s hoping Yee gets everything he deserves…
