Back in 1987, Frank Mancuso, Jr. and Larry B. Williams created “Friday The 13th: The Series,” which had nothing to do with the feature film franchise of the same name. But this time, the infamous slasher, Jason Voorhees may finally make his TV debut.
According to Deadline, Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment are producing a new “Friday The 13th” hour long drama series that would be based directly on the original films. Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) are writing the pilot script that will depict Jason in multiple time periods.
Original Friday The 13th director Sean S. Cunningham will be an executive producer of the potential TV adaptation alongside Randall Emmett, George Furla, Mark Canton, Steve B. Harris and Ted Fox, with Horror Inc. President, Robert Barsamian also attached as a producer. The special effects will be handled by SOTA FX’s Roy Knyrim.
In a brief statement, Barsamian said “Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”
The new “Friday The 13th” TV series is said to be contemporary, while revealing new secrets about the Voorhees family as the residents of Crystal Lake are forced to confront Jason again and again.
There isn’t a network currently attached to the “Friday The 13th” TV series, but it should draw some interest because it is a pre-existing franchise. I think that Netflix would be the perfect home for it, but feel free to share your choice of network in the comment section below!
