If you were a professional athlete, you know you’d do it: fire up the Xbox One or PS4, throw on the coolest new video game version of your sport, and go play the game as yourself. The impulse to go out and conquer the cyber-field in a way you probably could never dominate the real one is just too enticing to pass up.
But with the advent of video game sports that are nearly just as real as real life now, that’s getting increasingly difficult to pull off.
As discovered by New York Yankees prospect Ty Hensley, according to Crave sports site NESN. The Yanks’ 2012 first-round draft pick hasn’t played pro ball in well over a year while recovering from hip surgery. So it’s no surprise he was more than ready to take a spin through the new MLB 14: The Show as himself.
Unfortunately, the video game gods know he’s hurt too…and weren’t about to let a little wish-fulfillment fly in the face of hard cold reality.

Harsh. But while the in-game injury obviously hit a little too close to home for Hensley, game develper Sony responded via Twitter to reassure the 20-year-old that the injury report was purely coincidental and definitely nothing personal.
