Now this is an odd mix. Five former AAA developers have come together under the indie banner of Friend & Foe Games to work on two new titles. Between the five current team members, they’ve worked on Battlefield 3, Bionic Commando, The Last Guardian, and Killzone.
A blurb on Friend & Foe’s about page details who they are and what they’re working on.
Friend & Foe is an independent game developer founded in 2014 by five devilishly handsome artists & unlettered programmers. We’ve set up shop in lovely Tokyo to put our years of experience and complaining to the test – going full indie and bringing our own games to the world. We consist of three-fifths Swede-in-exile, and two parts Southern European madman. We are clearly up to no good.
We are currently working on two games in parallel – Vane and Dangerous Men. We believe in extremely nimble game development, with self-funding and self-publishing our titles as far as possible.
The two projects mentioned couldn’t be more different. In Vane, you play as a boy who finds himself in a strange and unknown land, where he must utilize his “special ability” to survive. Meanwhile, Dangerous Men is a title that’s unabashedly “full of explosions,” and draws inspiration from “80’s buddy cop movies.” Color me intrigued.
Applying AAA talent to indie projects definitely sounds promising, so it may be worthwhile to keep tabs on the projects Friend & Foe are planning. There’s not a whole lot of info to go by just yet, but maybe that’s not such a bad thing. There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of suspense.
