Winter is coming… to IMAX.
“Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin has previously floated the idea of wrapping up HBO’s adaptation of his novels as feature films. While that idea has yet to gain traction, it won’t stop “Game of Thrones” from making its theatrical debut later this month.
Variety was the first to report that HBO and IMAX have reached a deal that will bring “Game of Thrones” to IMAX movie theaters later this month. This will be the first TV series ever shown on theatrical IMAX screens.
The final two episodes of “Game of Thrones” Season 4 (including episode nine’s epic battle at The Wall) will be remastered to fit the IMAX format. And to further entice fans, an exclusive trailer for “Game of Thrones” Season 5 will also be shown at the IMAX engagement.

We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event.”
Tickets have not yet gone on sale, but the “Game of Thrones” IMAX experience will be in 150 theaters across the United States from January 23 to January 29.
“Game of Thrones” Season 5 is expected to begin in April 2015.
