Mortal Kombat X Story Trailer Showcases Several New Characters, Additional Reveals

This is the moment in history that everyone will know as the day Mortal Kombat X finally came clean. With the release of this new story trailer, Mortal Kombat X stopped messing around and revealed an expansive roster of characters and plot details.

The trailer revealed three new characters presumably playable, including Jacqueline Briggs (Jax’s daughter), Kung Jin (decendent of Kung Lao), Takashi Takeda (son of Kenshi), in addition to showing Mileena, Shinnok, Sindel and Baraka, although it’s not necessarily known if the latter four will be playable.

Other Things We Learned from the Trailer:

Shinnok will either be a final boss, or he won’t be in the game.

A scene in the early part of the trailer reveals Shinnok being sucked into a Talisman. Since the ensuing fight is over said Talisman, it’s likely that the evil side is fighting to release Shinnok onto the world, which would put him in the realm of a final boss. This could mean that Shinnok will be in Mortal Kombat X, but won’t be playable, just like Shao Khan wasn’t playable in Mortal Kombat (2011). Since I don’t want to rule anything out, this could mean that he won’t be in the game at all.

There are more than two sides.

Further proving that the Mortal Kombat X comic will be canon, there is more than just the good side and bad side in the game. Kotal Khan, who took over as the leader of Outworld, overthrowing Mileena. While Mileena has the Talisman, and the good guys want to get it back, Kotal Khan only wants to destroy Mileena. Don’t be surprised if Cassie Cage and Kotal Khan consider each other the enemy of their enemy, and thus friends.

If Liu Kang is coming back, it’s gonna be big.

For a trailer that revealed as much as this one did, long-time favorite Liu Kang was nowhere to be found. So if he does make an appearance in Mortal Kombat X, NetherRealm wants it to be a big moment in the game that has no potential of being spoiled. Fans of Liu Kang are about to be incredibly excited or incredibly disappointed.
