SHOWTIME Psychological Thriller Penny Dreadful Returns

From the dark and mysterious streets of Victorian London, populated by some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters, to modern-day Toronto, where a world-class Canadian post-production team brings the series to life, the critically acclaimed, frightening SHOWTIME drama Penny Dreadful returns for its second season on May 3rd on The Movie Network and Movie Central.

Additionally, Penny Dreadful Season 2 has its world theatrical premiere on Tuesday, April 21 at Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox, featuring series star Josh Hartnett.
 
The 10-episode second season finds Vanessa Ives (Eva Green, Casino Royale) and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett, Black Hawk Down) forming a deeper bond as the group, including Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton, Licence to Kill), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway, The Lone Ranger), and Sembene (Danny Sapani, The Fear), unite to banish the evil forces that threaten to destroy them. Meanwhile, Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney, The Tempest), the Creature (Rory Kinnear, Quantum of Solace), and Brona (Billie Piper, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) are all waging battles of their own.

Patti LuPone (American Horror Story) guest stars in the new season as a mysterious character of great importance in Vanessa’s past. Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders) returns as Evelyn Poole (aka Madame Kali), the seductive spiritualist poses a unique threat to the protagonists this season, along with Simon Russell Beale (The Deep Blue Sea), who is back as eccentric Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle. Additional guest stars include Douglas Hodge (The Town) as a Scotland Yard investigator, Sarah Greene (Vikings) as Poole’s powerful daughter, Hecate, and Jonny Beauchamp (How To Make It In America) as a man with a singular past.

Penny Dreadful returns on Sunday, May 3rd at 10pm.
