“That’s my secret , Captain…I’m always angry.”
That line spoken by Bruce Banner just before he turned into the Hulk and smashed a Leviathan out of the air resonated with fans and is considered one of the best lines in The Avengers. Joss Whedon has a little story to tell regarding how he came up with it:
I thought, ‘This feels psychologically true, like somebody could be like that.’ And then about four months after the movie came out, something happened and I just lost my shit. I was like, ‘Oh! It’s about me!
As you can see, the director revealed that it is possibly rooted in how he feels when he gets angry himself. It appears he didn’t have that realization until much later, though. Does this mean we need to be afraid of Whedon as well? Is he constantly angry but giving off some semblance of a controlled emotional state? Who knows…
