NBC Cancels Constantine

Last year, DC Entertainment sold four different properties to three different networks. And all of them have been renewed for second season… except Constantine.

NBC has officially canceled Constantine after a single season. The series adapted the Vertigo comic book, Hellblazer, which featured occult investigator/con-man, John Constantine. The Constantine character was originally created by writer Alan Moore as a supporting character in Swamp Thing before Constantine was shifted into his own title.

Late last year, NBC declined to pick up the option for the “back nine” episodes of Constantine Season 1, effectively halting production at episode 13. However, the network kept the show on life support until this week and insisted that Constantine was still in play for a potential second season.

Constantine executive producer Daniel Cerone confirmed the news on twitter and added a hopeful note that the series may not be done yet.

“NBC a ‘no; for Season 2. Warner Bros working hard to find Constantine new home. Stay active. Stream. Tweet.”

There was an earlier rumor that Constantine could head to Syfy, but that was never confirmed. Deadline speculates that Constantine may even be able to land on another broadcast network and suggested that Fox would make a good home for it.

It would take something extraordinary to save Constantine. But if Warner Bros. TV is committed to keeping it alive then there may still be some hope.
