Does Mufasa: The Lion King Have a Post-Credits Scene at the End?

Mufasa: The Lion King serves both as a prequel and sequel to the 2019 photo-realistically animated remake of the 1994 iconic animated movie, The Lion King. The plot predominantly revolves around Mufasa (Aaron Pierre) and another lion who will be known in the future as Scar (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), exploring the early dynamics between them and how those things sowed the seeds of the bitter and violent end of that relationship. Traditionally, end, mid, and post-credits scenes denote the continuation of the story or are examples of fan service. Given that Mufasa: The Lion King is part of a bigger story and movie series, the audience wants to know whether it has a post or end-credits scene.

Is there an end, mid, or post-credits scene in Mufasa: The Lion King?

No, Mufasa: The Lion King reportedly doesn’t end with a mid or post-credits scene.

As mentioned above, it is both the prequel and sequel to 2019’s The Lion King. The story unfolds in two separative narratives. One revolves around Rafiki the mandrill (John Kani) telling Simba’s daughter Kiara (Blue Ivy Carter) the story of her grandfather, while the other is set in the past and follows Mufasa as he grows close to a young lion prince named Taka, who is destined to become Scar.

As the plot of the movie takes place both in the past and the present, there is effectively little justification to denote that the story will continue. The audience knows that it does, and how things end for Mufasa and Scar. As for fan service, it’s ultimately a filmmaker’s decision whether to put them in as post or end-credits scenes. It appears that, with Mufasa: The Lion King, director Barry Jenkins (Medicine for Melancholy, Moonlight) has decided not to include one.

Mufasa: The Lion King debuts in U.S. theaters on Friday, December 20, 2024.
